Midterm grades, Pass/Fail, and Fall Course Registration

We’ve reached the mid-point of the semester, which means that your student is starting to get midterm grades in eServices. Midterm grades help students evaluate their progress in each of their classes so over the next six weeks they can change their study habits or use academic support resources to improve.

If your student is not currently earning the grade they want to earn, there is still a lot of time and most likely a lot of assignments, projects or exams they can complete to earn a better grade. Please encourage your student to take advantage of VCU’s FREE peer led tutoring, supplemental instruction, coaching, and writing support to make their learning experience the best it can be.

If your student is concerned about their ability to improve their grade, please encourage them to speak with their academic advisor before the March 29th deadline to see if they can take the course Pass/Fail, which would allow them to earn credits for the course without it negatively affecting their GPA. Withdrawing should only be considered if your student has reviewed the syllabus and is absolutely certain that they can not pass the course.

Finally, registration for fall classes begins at the end of March. If your student hasn’t updated their Plan in DegreeWorks and met with their academic advisor to review it, now is the time to do so! They can make an appointment or view their advisor’s drop-in hours in Navigate.

We look forward to working with your students! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to advising@vcu.edu.
